Donald Trump has announced he is hiking import taxes on goods imported from Canadian sources after the territory of the Ontario government aired an anti-tariff commercial using former President Ronald Reagan.

In a online post on Saturday, Donald Trump labeled the commercial a "misrepresentation" and lashed out at Canada's officials for not taking down it prior to the baseball championship.

"Due to their major falsification of the truth, and aggressive move, I am increasing the duty on Canada by ten percent over and above what they are paying now," Trump posted.

Following Trump on Thursday ended trade negotiations with Canadian officials, the Ontario's leader stated he would pull the commercial.

Ontario's Position

Ontario Leader the Premier said on Friday that he would halt his territory's anti-tariff commercial series in the US, telling reporters that he made the decision after consultations with the Prime Minister Mark Carney "to ensure commercial discussions can resume".

He noted it would remain broadcast during the weekend, featuring contests for the World Series, which involves the Toronto team against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Trade Context

Canada is the exclusive G7 state that has not achieved a agreement with the America since the President started trying to charge high tariffs on goods from primary commercial allies.

The US has already applied a 35 percent duty on each Canadian products - though the majority are excluded under an existing trade deal. It has also applied targeted taxes on Canada's items, such as a fifty percent tax on metals and 25% on cars.

In his update, published while he was traveling to Malaysia, the President seemed to say he was imposing 10 percent to those taxes.

Three-quarters of Canada's overseas sales are sold to the US, and Ontario is host to the bulk of the nation's vehicle industry.

Ronald Reagan Ad Details

The advertisement, which was paid for by the provincial government, quotes late President Reagan, a conservative icon and figure of American conservatism, stating duties "harm every American".

The video uses clips from a 1987 national radio address that centered on international trade.

The Ronald Reagan Foundation, which is responsible for preserving the late president's heritage, had criticized the advertisement for using "edited" audio and video and claimed it distorted Reagan's remarks. It additionally stated the provincial government had not obtained permission to use it.

Ongoing Disputes

In his post on social media on the weekend, Trump claimed that the advertisement should have been removed earlier.

"Ontario's Ad was to be pulled RIGHT AWAY, but they allowed it to air last night during the baseball championship, realizing that it was a DECEPTION," he wrote, while flying to Southeast Asia.

the Premier had previously pledged to broadcast the Ronald Reagan advertisement in all Republican region in the United States.

The two the President and Carney will be participating in the ASEAN in Southeast Asia, but Trump told the media traveling with him on Air Force One that he does not have any "plan" of speaking with his Canadian PM during the journey.

In his post, the President also alleged Canada of attempting to manipulate an forthcoming US Supreme Court legal case which could terminate his complete import duty program.

The legal matter, to be reviewed by the American judiciary soon, will decide whether the import taxes are constitutional.

On last Thursday, Trump further criticized, stating that the advertisement was created to "interfere" with "a crucial lawsuit"

Baseball Championship Association

The Reagan commercial is not the sole way that the region – home of the Toronto team – is using the World Series as a opportunity to criticize the President's import taxes.

In a video shared on Friday, the Premier and Governor Gavin Newsom playfully made bets about which team would succeed in the finals.

Both men consistently teased about tariffs in the video, with Ford vowing to deliver Newsom a container of syrup if the LA Dodgers triumph.

"The import tax might set me back a higher price at the crossing nowadays, but it'll be justified," Ford said.

In answer, the Governor asked Ford to continue allowing American-produced alcohol to be available in Ontario beverage outlets, and vowed to provide "California's championship-worthy wine" if the Jays triumph.

They concluded their dialogue together stating: "Cheers to a great baseball championship, and a tariff-free alliance between the region and California."
