'Enduring a Horrific Ordeal': Relatives of Unaccounted For Teens Desperately Seek Information After Alpine Fire

The families of teens unaccounted for after a deadly inferno at a bar in a Switzerland's alpine town are facing an excruciating period of uncertainty for answers and appealing for information about their family members publicly.

The blaze devastated the Le Constellation bar in the alpine resort, located in the Swiss Alps of the Valais region, in the small hours of January 1st. Circulated images show the roof structure being engulfed in flames as bottles with sparklers are raised in celebration.

Emergency services have indicated that it could take days if not weeks to formally name the victims of the disaster, which resulted in the death of numerous partygoers and hurt another scores more. Officials noted on Friday that the majority of the injured have been accounted for, with the process ongoing to identify the final individuals.

In the interim, families and friends have been posting on the internet to plead for any news about their friends who were in attendance that fateful night.

Desperate Searches for the Missing

The location of Swiss national Arthur Brodard, 16, are not yet determined, according to an public plea from his family.

The resident of Lutry near Lausanne, told a local newspaper that she had returned to Lausanne to see if he was in the medical facility, while his father did the equivalent search in Bern, but did not locate him.

"I'm living a nightmare, an ordeal. The options are finding my son in the morgue, or I find him in critical condition. It's horrific," she said.

She added that some of his peers had been found with injuries covering nearly half their bodies. "There are no words; they experienced an absolute nightmare."

The Italian government has confirmed that six of its citizens remain missing.
