Larian Studios Unveil a Fresh Divinity, Labeling it Their Largest RPG Ever

The speculation surrounding this year's gaming ceremony was significant, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious image of a desert monolith. The secret has now been solved. Larian Studios is creating a brand-new Divinity game.

Announced as Divinity, the game was showcased with a daring trailer packed with memorable imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the literal opening of infernal gates.

Not the Expected Sequel

Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian clarified that a direct sequel to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not being worked on now.

Nevertheless, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a evolution of the core franchise. This choice of words hints that the team is likely crafting a faster-paced experience as opposed to another turn-based title. Currently, we can only guess, as only a announcement clip is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is universally respected and many say it sparked the contemporary revival of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are defined by rich lore, choice-driven narratives, and complex character building—qualities that subsequently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its universe is classic fantasy, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the immense freedom bestowed upon the player.

Where many modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is packed with unique possibilities only possible with a specific type of character with a unique decision path.

The series is also wonderfully open-ended, allowing players to improvise in narrative and gameplay. Nearly every quest can be completed in diverse methods, frequently in unexpected fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you recalled something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could overcome an obstacle by teleporting a glob of lava in a unorthodox way.

More to Come

It is this design philosophy that allow people to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games of all time. Now, players can anticipate a new entry in this esteemed franchise.
